Nothing compares to a thrilling adventure on the high seas, a sentiment shared by Charles Greig, a young Scottish jeweller, as he boarded the mail ship HMS Scot more than a century ago. Trained in the meticulous craft of watchmaking, he embarked on a journey to bring his life’s ambition to fruition and, in 1899, opened the doors of his own jewellery store in the affluent mining town of Johannesburg. Today, Charles Greig Jewellers enjoys an esteemed reputation amongst the world’s most distinguished jewellers.

Since its inception, the Greig legacy has been synonymous with fine timepieces. David Greig, the third generation descendant, inherited his grandfather’s passion for watches and, as a consequence, pursued his watchmaking tuition in the horological town of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. In turn, he bequeathed his love and knowledge of watches to his sons Christopher, Donald and Richard. Under their expert stewardship, Charles Greig Jewellers is now a fourth generation family concern.

In the time-honoured tradition of sea voyages, Charles Greig Jewellers pays homage to its founder and his arrival on South African shores more than a hundred years ago. A selection of timepieces - for collectors and connoisseurs.
